Judith McLaughlin, again, was an amazingly passionate teacher, who's past tragedies (i.e., losing her sister) allowed her relate to and be able to explain many of the concepts in class..the most interesting part, in my opinion, was that of Schizophrenia and other mental diseases. Makes me see homeless people differently--so many of them struggle with Schizophrenia, and so many of them wish to stay in their altered reality because they can't face actual reality. Cool things I learned:
*One spends 6 years of their life dreaming and everybody dreams every night?!?!!
* Freuds theory of personality: three awareness levels:
1-conscious: what a person is aware of at any given moment
2-preconscious: all memories/experiences one isn't consciously thinking of
3-unconscious: motivating force of behavior we are not conscious of
ID: unconscious, life and death instincts
Ego: logical/rational/realistic, mostly conscious
Superego: moral component of personality, contains conscience
*More women and young people are vulnerable to PTSD(!?)
*Agoraphobia=fear of being in a setting where there is no easy escape (panic disorder)
*Dissociative Identity Disorder=2 or more distinct personalities occur in same person, no biological or genetic causes but by something too painful to confront
